KEVIN POLE
Kevin was raised on a ranch at Claresholm, Alberta. Early on in his career he worked as a cowboy on large ranches in Alberta, British Columbia (including the Douglas Lake Ranch, the Gang Ranch and Nicola Valley) and also in Nevada. He chose horse training as a full time, life long career in the late ‘70’s and is a graduate of the Sperry Oklahoma Farrier College. Kevin mentored and trained with both Tony Ameral and Tom Dorrance in California. After furthering his knowledge as a horseman Kevin returned to Canada to begin his tenor (32 years so far) as a true professional.

Kevin is recognized by the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) with Professional Horseman status. Over the years he has been involved with many organizations and has worked hard to be a highly effective, successful and extremely diverse trainer. Both the British Columbia Interior Cutting Horse Association and Reining Alberta recognize him as an honorary lifetime member for his efforts on the founding level of their sport associations.

Over the years, Kevin has been a champion in many different disciplines including halter, western pleasure, western riding, trail, English pleasure, cutting, cowhorse, reining, and roping. He is a 21 time Canadian Champion in seven of these events, has been Top 15 in the World twice and has coached and mentored many amateur and young professional trainers to national and world champion status. On a more local level Kevin has also been a past futurity champion taking home the horse trailer from the annual SRHA Stakes and Futurities show; hosted in Moose Jaw each October; and Derby Champion at the Canadian Reining Breeders Classic which is the highest paying reining futurity and derby in the country. Other recent accomplishments include being reserve champion (by one half point) at the first ever Canadian AQHA approved Ranch Horse Versatility contest (held at Golden Mile Arena in 2008), High Point Cowhorse and Cutting Champion at the Appaloosa Show and numerous other cowhorse and cutting champion awards.

Kevin’s portfolio also includes other prestigious invitational accomplishments. He was on the 1998 Winter Olympic Choreography Team to implement the equine portion of the opening ceremonies, has judged numerous times at Agribition (the largest indoor stock show in North America under one roof), The Brandon Winter Fair, many 50/50 incentive competitions and numerous open, breed, youth and ranch roping competitions.

Kevin is an esteemed clinician and is well known for the positive energy he conveys within his horsemanship techniques; which also gained him recognition with numerous sportsmanship awards. He currently teaches across western Canada but has also taught in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia and Italy. His showing career has also stretched across the continents and includes the title of European Super Horse Champion at Americana (the largest QH show in all of Europe) which is hosted in Germany. In 2008 Kevin also became a member of the Agribition Ranch Horse Panel and travelled with the other judges to make the selections for the fall competition.

Although his equine activities continue to take priority, Kevin is also recognized as a stock dog trainer. He; along with wife Dallas; breed and train purebred border collie and Australian kelpies. Kevin enjoys taking part in arena and field trials at the Open level when time permits and volunteers his skills as a judge at some preliminary trials.

In December 2007 Kevin and Dallas sold their performance horse arena and facility at Lethbridge where they had resided for the past eleven years and purchased an 1,100 acre ranch south of Mortlach, Saskatchewan. Throughout the past year the Pole’s have worked diligently to develop the new ranch, downsize their training facility from having 30-40 training horses (and assistant trainers) and have now taken on new responsibilities at the ranch custom grazing cattle and working as a provincial pasture rider. Kevin’s extensive connections within the Equine Community have allowed him to immediately begin implementing opportunities and instilling a fresh new perspective for growth and endless possibilities in Saskatchewan. His commitment to continue the momentum and enthusiasm is based on his heartfelt dedication to promote equine activity.

DALLAS POLE

     Dallas grew up on a ranch northwest of Cochrane, Alberta. She began riding competitively in the English disciplines at the age of 5, and continued up through the Pony Club ranks eventually Three Day Eventing (dressage, steeple chase, cross country and show jumping) as a team with her Mom traveling throughout western Canada to compete for many years. She spent much of her free time teaching young riders and upcoming Pony Club members gearing towards showing and eventing. Throughout the years she had great opportunity working with private coaches from Canada and England along the way.

After finishing her post secondary education as a Certified Petroleum Production Accountant, Dallas spent 12 years working in the Oil & Gas industry in Calgary, but continued her lifelong commitment with horses as a hobby. Many of these years involved working in remote field and corporate city office locations training Department Managers and Executives to use custom developed petroleum tracking and accounting software. Dallas brings with her, the ability to adapt quickly to convey teaching methods to adjust and appeal to a variety of audiences, age groups and backgrounds very effectively. Her strong business background also allows her to apply her knowledge of fiscally responsible programs and budgeting to the equine industry. Group facilitation and committee management organization are strong skills that have proved to be a valuable assets.

Over the years she has also volunteered her time in various positions; including as Past President of the Victim Services Unit in conjunction with the Cochrane RCMP Detachment. Eventually, after marrying Kevin, Dallas left the oil & gas industry to help build on their private training and breeding facility and to assist with the day to day management involved with housing 35-50 head of performance horses.

She showed competitively at the Non Pro level for eight years in the reining pen and has been recognized in the Reining Canada statistics as an Alberta Provincial Champion and Top Ten in Canada multiple times. She is a National Reining Horse Association certified show secretary and has managed large shows as well as being an AQHA certified Show Manager. Dallas’ organizational skills combined with a strong accounting and administrative background have allowed her to contribute to many equine events.

As a past member of the Executive Committee of Reining Canada, Dallas was also heavily involved in the national meetings involved to encourage and implement movement with the FEI (through Equine Canada) to assist in the development and approval of reining as a recognized sport at the Olympics. She was also instrumental in the development and organization of the first ever Canada Cup Competition held to select the International Reining Team to represent Canada at World Masters and other internationally approved competitions. In 2009 she has also taken on a new role as a Director with the Saskatchewan Horse Federation.

With the retirement of two professional industry equine photographers in 2005, Dallas identified an opportunity and started Cowgirl Creations Equine and Event Photography. Although it has meant a hiatus from competition in the show pen for the past few years, it has enabled her to continue her involvement in the industry and up to date with her knowledge of equine activities in the western provinces. Dallas’ freelance work often graces the cover and contents of publications such Western Horse Review, The Quarter Horse News and other prominent performance horse magazines common to every horse enthusiast’s home.
